Over the last few years, SkyeLine Studio has moved toward designing more and more websites with WordPress. A Content Management System (CMS), such as WordPress, allows our clients to update their website independently. Standard updates do not require any technical coding knowledge.
When we were deciding which CMS to specialize in, WordPress became the obvious choice. Today, WordPress is used by more than 74 million websites and powers 22.5% of all websites on the internet. The best part about WordPress is that it’s easy to use and flexible enough for just about anything. Click here for some examples of websites SkyeLine has built in WordPress. You can see that they are as varied as the clients themselves.
There are two other big CMS players in website design today – Joomla & Drupal. We decided not to specialize in those platforms because they are more difficult for the client to use and are overall less popular. There are also a number of small CMS start-ups out there which are untested at best, and vulnerable to viruses and poor customer support at the worst. WordPress is built on open source coding that is updated approximately every 42 days to ensure safe, effective software. It’s not something that is going to be unsupported a year from now. WordPress is here to stay.
Some other WordPress features that we love:
- Many of the top brands use WordPress to power their websites: Time Magazine, Google, Facebook, Sony, Disney, LinkedIn, The New York Times, CNN, eBay, and more.
- WordPress is Search Engine Friendly: WordPress is written using standard compliance high quality code and produces semantic mark-up which makes your site very attractive to search engines. This means that you’ll show up higher in Google searches, which means that more potential customers will find your website.
- WordPress is Safe and Secure: WordPress is developed with security in mind, so it is considered quite safe and secure to run for any website. It is constantly evolving; when an issue is discovered, you can be rest assured that a security patch / update is being worked on and will be released very soon.
