Score Big with Restaurant Marketing for the Super Bowl

As Super Bowl LVII quickly approaches, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs aren’t the only ones prepping for the big day on February 12th. At SkyeLine Studio, we see this annual sports holiday as one of the biggest advertising opportunities for our clients in the restaurant industry. And although we couldn’t fit a Super Bowl ad in the budget for them this year, we’ve pulled out some of our best marketing strategies from our playbook to help capitalize on all the upcoming spending by hungry (and thirsty) fans.

On Super Bowl Sunday alone, Americans consume more food than any other day of the year besides Thanksgiving. And to put that into perspective, here are some stats at a glance:

  • 1.4 billion chicken wings will be consumed
  • 12.5 million pizzas will be ordered
  • 325.5 million gallons of beer will be sipped (or guzzled)

With numbers like that, it’s integral for restaurants to prepare for a food event as big as this. Plus, given that Super Bowl Sunday is one sports holiday primarily enjoyed at home, it’s important to pay extra attention to pick-up and delivery services for any restaurant that offers game-day grub. That’s why we start promoting pick-up and delivery specials via social media and email for our clients like Sliders Grill & Bar weeks before the Super Bowl when people’s excitement really starts to build.

Yet, while we’re sure Sliders’ award-winning chicken wings could sell out based on their flavor alone, it takes more than just an excellent product to win a spot at someone’s Super Bowl party. Advertising is essential during big events like this because it not only gets the word out to large audiences quickly but also shows that brands like Sliders are just as invested in their customer’s game day experience as they are.

From at-home recipes using their famous sauce to giveaways for their specially made wings kits, our job is to show football fanatics that Sliders is here to make their Super Bowl Sunday one to remember. And these promotions certainly pay off for CT’s Best Sports Bar, as they sell over 110,000 wings on Super Bowl Sunday alone!

Because in the end, whether you’re a football fan or not, if there’s one thing you can look forward to, it’s delicious food (and the commercials, of course). And while email marketing and social media are great ways to increase exposure among customers, it’s not the only way for restaurants to get some skin in the game.

Take our client Angela’s Pizza & Deli, for example. As a business that relies heavily on its website to draw in online traffic, the owners reached out to us to improve its look and functionality in anticipation of a busy year ahead. And now that it’s up and running with easy online ordering, Angela’s is ready for any last-minute pizza orders that will certainly head their way come Super Bowl Sunday. It’s the second busiest day of the year for restaurants that serve pizza (right after Halloween), making it one of the best opportunities to earn some dough. See what we did there?

No matter how you promote your products, at SkyeLine Studio, we know the most important part of any successful restaurant marketing strategy is to be prepared and get the word out early. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest restaurant holidays of the year, and we’re here to make sure you don’t fumble it.
